ZOOM! ZOOM! H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder

Samson(Zoom) has announced plans to reveal its new H4n recorder at CES 2009. The Zoom H4n takes many of the features included on the original Zoom H4 (stereo mics, XLR/TRS mic inputs, variable-recording patterns, and a slew of recording formats and resolutions), but the design has been overhauled with a larger screen, improved button arrangement, a shock-absorbing rubberized body, and an all-metal microphone design.

The Zoom H4n records to SD and SDHC Flash media (up to 32GB) and captures audio resolutions up to 24 bit at 96KHz. Unlike the competition, the Zoom H4n includes many musician-friendly features, such as 50 virtual guitar-amp model effects, track markers, playback speed control, and studio effects. It also has a speaker built into the back of the unit. It’s not going to replace your book box anytime soon, but it comes in handy if you want to check your audio or play a clip for someone on the go. You can certainly use the speaker to play music as well – it’s just not going to sound very good.

Like the original Zoom H4, the Zoom H4n has a number of features that really set it apart from competing recorders from Sony, Marantz, Tascam, and Edirol. For one thing, you can use the Zoom H4n either to record straightforward stereo tracks or as a 4-track digital recording studio.

One of the main highlights of this compact audio recorder is the built-in X/Y condenser microphone which can support sounds which come in 90 or 120 degrees, thus resulting to more vivid audio recordings. And because users can digitally adjust the microphone, they can regulate every minuscule detail of the sound.

@l5aa Awesome! Now, I recomend you not to use original interconnect cables that came with 7001. They suck. Get some quality (Silver) interconnects, for the best signal from CD to Amp. And becouse RS1 and Marantz sounds very opened and also a bit brighter, dont use Silver cables for your speaker cables. Better cord cables will also improve sound. And dont forget to “break in” the system. Enjoy!

nice system but i think that subwoofer is turned up way too loud, just judging from youtube it could be the vid or the music or something

@Titanhearth I know what you mean for me its the other way around i also uploaded a video of my material and youtube made the sound crackle a bit+ the low tones/frequency sounds you can barely hear while they actually should be thereThough at the moment i am running a marantz pm5003 (55watts into 4 ohms) on quadral wotan MK5s, but ill be looking for a way more powerfull amp soon anyways so i can run these speakers alot better.

ps. Nice set you got there !

The title of that song is: “Fallen on hard times”, preformed by Jethro Tull.

I’ve git the same AMP i like it and i’ve got the CD5001 Original SE cause i don’t have so much money^^
I use it with a pair of B&W DM303…. sounds great.

Whats the name of the song? =)

  9. Titanhearth says:

Well, the reason for a bass busting sound in this video is the low quality of a webcam microphone. In rael, it dose not sound like that at all. I use the sub for supporting low tones of RS1, which are not earthshakers. Also, the sub is set to a very low volume, just for a little extra kick. Of coure I use it for a DVD’s but also for CD, some audios are ment to deliver earthshakes, like Manowar last two albums. At JAZZ, its more likely to lower sub volume, or turn it off. Sorry for bad english.
